If you are a frequent flyer to your timeshare vacation this announcement from the Transportation Security Administration is for you.<\/p>\n

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) just announced that it will add a new process allowing more U.S. citizens to enroll in TSA Pre\u2713\u2122 – an expedited screening program that allows pre-approved airline travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids\/gels bag in a carry-on in select screening lanes.<\/p>\n

Previously, to be eligible for TSA Pre\u2713\u2122, travelers had to opt-in through an airline\u2019s frequent flier program, or be enrolled in one of CBP\u2019s Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs.<\/p>\n

To date, more than 12 million travelers have already experienced TSA Pre\u2713\u2122 at 40 airports nationwide, and today\u2019s announcement will expand the availability of this program to a larger portion of traveling U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n

Starting later this year, U.S. citizens will be able to apply online and visit an enrollment site to provide identification and fingerprints. TSA will start the program at two initial enrollment sites \u2014 Washington Dulles International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport \u2014 with plans to expand to additional enrollment sites nationwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative will increase the number of U.S. citizens eligible to receive expedited screening, through TSA Pre\u2713\u2122,\u201d said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole.<\/p>\n

\u201cTSA Pre\u2713\u2122 enables us to focus on the travelers we know the least about, adding efficiency and effectiveness to the screening process,\u201d Pistole said.<\/p>\n

The TSA Pre\u2713\u2122 application program requires a background check, fingerprints, and an anticipated enrollment fee of $85 for a five-year membership.<\/p>\n

Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) and the opportunity to go through TSA Pre\u2713\u2122 lanes at security checkpoints at participating airports.<\/p>\n

The TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.<\/p>\n

The TSA was created in the wake of September 11, 2001, to strengthen the security of the nation\u2019s transportation systems and ensure the freedom of movement for people and commerce.<\/p>\n

Today, TSA secures the nation\u2019s airports and screens all commercial airline passengers and baggage. TSA uses a risk-based strategy and works closely with transportation, law enforcement and intelligence communities to set the standard for excellence in transportation security.<\/p>\n

TSA\u2019s workforce comprises approximately 50,000 frontline officers who screen approximately 1.8 million travelers each day at more than 450 airports nationwide.<\/p>\n
