Part 3 &#8211; San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>The City by the Bay is one beautiful spot. Built on hills alongside a bay, there is one postcard view after another. It\u2019s also an exciting city for culture and entertainment, much of which is free.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF2.jpg\" style=\"clear: left;float: left;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF2.jpg?932868538691bd2241fe04b270ca9feb\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>1. Drive.<\/b> Just driving the steep hills in San Francisco is an adventure. You\u2019ll have plenty of stories to tell the folks back home.<\/p>\n<p>For a great tour of the area, follow the city\u2019s 49-mile Scenic Drive which takes you from Chinatown and Fisherman\u2019s Wharf to Mission Delores and Lake Merced.<\/p>\n<p>Once you get the knack of driving in San Francisco, finish off on a drive down world-famous Lombard Street, with \u2013 count them \u2013 eight tight hairpin curves.<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Golden Gate Bridge.<\/b>&nbsp;The most iconic landmark in the city is yours to explore up close. It&#8217;s absolutely free to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge (see top photo), a unique way to experience one of the most photographed structures in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Close enough to touch the welded rivets and to look straight up at the suspension cables, you can try to picture what it would have been like to build this world-famous bridge.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF5.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF5.jpg?d31c5cdb8a78052545cddaa5eed2545d\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>3. San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.<\/b>  The Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf neighborhood is where you\u2019ll find this fascinating tribute to the all-important maritime history of San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>Historic ships are docked at Hyde Street Pier, including the 1886 square-rigger <i>Balclutha<\/i> and the 1915 steam schooner <i>Wapama<\/i>, all set against views of the Golden Gate Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The visitor&#8217;s center is free and has fascinating exhibits on the history of maritime voyages that have had a major influence in creating San Francisco as the world-class city it is today.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SFchocolate.jpg\" style=\"clear: left;float: left;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SFchocolate.jpg?f06e88ae2bbc4c31e82cd9ab31646b17\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>4.  Ghiardelli Chocolate.<\/b> A tour of Ghirardelli&#8217;s flagship store and former factory is free.<\/p>\n<p>Here you can  see the company&#8217;s original chocolate-making equipment on display, and yes, you\u2019ll also receive free samples of chocolate.<\/p>\n<p>The surrounding Ghirardelli Square is on the National Register of Historic Places.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF7.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF7.jpg?1816e34207bfb83782f8c96bde80ea9c\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>5. Well Fargo History Museum.<\/b> This free museum in the financial district traces the exciting timeline and activities of San Francisco\u2019s frenzied Barbary Coast Gold Rush era.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF8.jpg\" style=\"clear: left;float: left;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF8.jpg?847f8774754aa301dcd8fa0b6fe2c22b\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>6. San Francisco Cable Car Museum.<\/b> While riding a cable car is not free, this museum is. Here you can watch the machinery work that winds the 11 miles of steel driving the cable  cars about town.<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco\u2019s cable cars are the only American national historic landmark which moves.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-YMp39FWORVo\/UdbrbQ-l41I\/AAAAAAAAJKQ\/qDD27MeuVso\/s1600\/SF+4.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"\/content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/SF4.jpg?4fa0bfadf7c17b014cd0933f539bbcda\" width=\"213\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><b>7. Victorian Homes Walk<\/b>. Take a free self-guided walking tour of San Francisco\u2019s iconic Victorian architecture.
