Even in this day and age you can have a budget-friendly timeshare vacation by staying in a timeshare rental and then checking out your destination city\u2019s \u201cfreebies.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a 5-part series we are taking a look at cities where you can have a great time with real no-cost entertainment. Part 2 \u2013 New Orleans.<\/p>\n

This beautiful southern city is chocked to the gills with free things to do that will interest just about every member of your family.<\/p>\n

1. Music.<\/b> What is more iconic to New Orleans than music? The Le Bon Temps Roule music club (see top photo) has free live music and even free oysters every Friday.<\/p>\n

Frenchmen Street is crowded with swinging night-life spots that don\u2019t require a cover charge, and that offer music for all tastes, including jazz, rock-and-roll, reggae, and even electronica.<\/p>\n

2. French Quarter Festivals<\/b>. All festivals in the French Quarter are free. Two of the most popular are: Satchmo Summer Festival<\/i> held for three days every year during the first week of August. Louis Armstrong is celebrated with jazz concerts, films, and art markets.<\/p>\n

Christmas, New Orleans Style<\/i> is held every December, and with free holiday activities. \u201cIt is a month-long celebration that offers long-treasured Creole traditions spiced with 21st-century fun,\u201d say the organizers.<\/p>\n

3. Mississippi River<\/b>. Watch the ships pass on the Mississippi River from Woldenberg Riverfront Park, and listen for the calliope on the steamboat Natchez<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Then take a free ride on the Canal Street Ferry. You\u2019ll cross the Mississippi, getting amazing views of the original city of New Orleans \u2013 and see why New Orleans is called the Crescent City.<\/p>\n

4. Cemeteries. <\/b>New Orleans is known as the most haunted city in America. With its violent past, which saw war, slavery, pestilence, and natural disasters, it\u2019s no wonder that there is voodoo and ghosts around every corner.<\/p>\n

 If you dare – Take your own free self-guided tour through the \u201cCity of the Dead,\u201d New Orleans most famous cemetery. Keep an eye out for the Voodoo Queen\u2019s tomb.<\/p>\n

5. Jackson Square.<\/b> For a full day of fun entertainment that is all free, head to Jackson Square for the street performers \u2013 mimes, dancers, brass bands, and storytellers.<\/p>\n

6. Mardi Gras.<\/b> All the parades that are associated with New Orleans\u2019 annual Mardi Gras celebration \u2013 the most famous and the largest in the world \u2013 are free.<\/p>\n

Other times of the year, stop by Arnaud\u2019s in the French Quarter for a free tour of the amazing Germaine Cazenave Wells Mardi Gras Museum.<\/p>\n
