{"id":6082,"date":"2021-03-17T12:00:54","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T12:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/blog\/?p=6082"},"modified":"2021-09-21T23:52:17","modified_gmt":"2021-09-21T23:52:17","slug":"hawaii-covid-travel-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/blog\/2021\/03\/17\/hawaii-covid-travel-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawaii Travel Updates | Kauai Rejoins Safe Travels Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As of April 5, Kauai county will join the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii in participating in the state\u2019s Safe Travels pre-travel testing program that allows visitors to forgo the required quarantine period if they have a negative COVID-19 test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/kauai-700x467.jpg?v=cee74bb3c8b109f85fe738ffb0b4c77e\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/kauai-700x467.jpg?v=cee74bb3c8b109f85fe738ffb0b4c77e 700w, https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/kauai-250x167.jpg?v=cee74bb3c8b109f85fe738ffb0b4c77e 250w, https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/kauai-768x512.jpg?v=cee74bb3c8b109f85fe738ffb0b4c77e 768w, https:\/\/blog-origin.redweek.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/kauai-120x80.jpg?v=cee74bb3c8b109f85fe738ffb0b4c77e 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redweek.com\/search\/North+America\/United+States\/Hawaii\/Kauai-timeshares\">Kauai, Hawaii<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, traveling to Hawaii entails the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/travel.hawaii.gov\/#\/\">Safe Travels Form<\/a><\/li><li>Mandatory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiitourismauthority.org\/covid-19-updates\/traveling-to-hawaii-and-interisland\/\">10 Day Self-Quarantine<\/a> (With the exception of travelers who complete a negative COVID-19 test from a trusted testing site traveling to islands participating in the Safe Travels Program)<\/li><li>To avoid the mandatory quarantine, take a COVID-19 test and upload negative test result to the <a href=\"https:\/\/travel.hawaii.gov\/#\/\">Safe Travels system<\/a> prior to departure or bring a hard copy of negative test result to the airport.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safe Travels Program<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii currently all comply with the state\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiicovid19.com\/travel\/\">Safe Travels pre-travel testing program<\/a>.&nbsp; Travelers must have their negative test results prior to departing as an alternative to Hawaii\u2019s mandatory 10-day quarantine.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor David Ige has approved Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami\u2019s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.gov\/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=MQWV07M7aug%3d&amp;tabid=108&amp;portalid=0&amp;mid=840\" target=\"_blank\">request to rejoin<\/a> the Safe Travels pre-travel testing program for Trans-Pacific travel, effective April 5, 2021. Existing rules for travel to Kauai remain effective until that date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Restrictions for Interisland Travelers<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Inter-county, or interisland passengers arriving in Kauai and Maui counties may bypass the mandatory 10-day quarantine if they take a COVID test from the certified CLIA lab of a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiitourismauthority.org\/speedbump\/?targetUrl=https:\/\/hawaiicovid19.com\/travel-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\">trusted testing and travel partner<\/a> no sooner than 72 hours prior to departure and produce a negative result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interisland passengers arriving to Hawaii County have two options to proceed without the 10-day quarantine: either test for COVID-19 up to 72 hours before traveling and receive a negative result, or be tested upon arrival. Individuals may break the self-quarantine to receive an approved test. A negative post-arrival test would allow the traveler to be released from quarantine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Exemption seekers can submit their requests online as well as review a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) at&nbsp;<\/em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiitourismauthority.org\/speedbump\/?targetUrl=https:\/\/ag.hawaii.gov\/travelexemption\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>travelexemption.hawaii.gov<\/em><\/a><em>.
